Viscosity bands
Distillate is typically the thickest; live resin and rosin sit in the middle depending on processing; heavily terpene-corrected oils are the thinnest. Knowing your band is the prerequisite to every other decision.
Intake sizing by viscosity
Thick oil → larger intakes to refill the wick; thin oil → smaller intakes to prevent flooding. Empti offers ClearCore in multiple intake configurations precisely for this reason.
Cutting agents
Diluents lower viscosity and change wicking behavior. If you reformulate, re-qualify hardware — a blend change can turn a perfect pairing into a leaker.
Cold-weather behavior
Cold thickens oil and can starve the wick, causing dry hits. Recommend preheat-capable batteries for markets with cold winters.
