Consistent fills start long before oil touches the reservoir. This walkthrough covers the variables that most affect yield and leak rate on Empti 510 hardware — viscosity, fill temperature, dwell time, and the capping sequence — so your line runs clean from the first cartridge to the last.

Viscosity & fill temperature

Most distillate fills best between 120–150°F (49–66°C), where viscosity drops enough to flow through a small-gauge nozzle without overheating terpenes. Thinner live-resin blends may fill as low as 95°F. Always confirm with a small test batch — overheating thins oil past the point of clean shutoff and promotes weeping at the intake holes.

Fill volume & headspace

Fill to the rated capacity, never above. ClearCore 1.0 mL reservoirs are designed with a small expansion headspace; overfilling forces oil into the central airpath during capping and is the most common cause of clogged or flooded carts. Use a calibrated dispenser and verify shot weight every 50–100 units.

Soak / wicking time

After filling, let cartridges rest upright so the wick fully saturates before capping and packaging. For ceramic-core hardware, allow a minimum of 30–60 minutes at room temperature (longer for high-viscosity oil). Capping or boxing too early traps dry wick that produces a harsh first pull and inconsistent vapor.

Capping sequence

Center the mouthpiece, apply even axial force, and avoid rocking the cap on. Press-fit caps seat with a positive click; over-pressing can crack glass, under-pressing leaves a path for leaks. If you use a pneumatic capper, validate force settings against a torque/pull-test sample at the start of every run.

    Stage & warm the oil

    Bring oil to its target fill temperature in a controlled warmer. Confirm with a probe thermometer rather than relying on the warmer dial.

    Heat in small batches — repeated reheating degrades terpenes.

    Calibrate the dispenser

    Set and verify shot weight against a scale before running production. Re-check every 50–100 units.

    Fill to rated capacity

    Dispense into the reservoir wall, not the central airpath. Maintain the designed headspace.

    Oil in the airpath is the #1 cause of flooded cartridges.

    Soak upright

    Rest filled cartridges upright for 30–60 minutes so the core fully wicks.

  5. 5

    Cap & pull-test

    Press-cap with even force, then pull-test a sample from each run to validate seating.
